Kids today are spending little time getting a normal amount of exercise. Gym classes have been cut from school programs due to lack of funding. Kids are even developing type 2 diabetes before they ever reach adolescence! As parents, children and excercise should be your top priority.

Martial arts classes are generally considered to be cool activities, so see if they’re interested in signing up for some classes. How about skateboarding? Frisbee games? My son and about fifteen other teens became obsessed with ultimate frisbee and played nightly in the summer at the local highschool football field.

Kids are well aware of how many overweight kids they see at school every day and they’re sensitive to the stigma of being considered ‘fat’. Explain the facts of food habits, children and exercise – how it all fits together. Junk food, sweets and no exercise add up to weight gain.
